Galmet buffer tank with two spiral coils is an advanced thermal storage solution for modern, complex heating systems. It can work with two independent heat sources—e.g., a heat pump and a solar thermal array—or with a source and a load, giving flexible energy management across the system. The two spiral coils act as separate heat exchangers, extending functionality and boosting overall efficiency.

Using a dual‑coil buffer tank stabilizes system temperature, reduces the frequency of heat‑source starts and allows fuller use of renewable energy. The tank can also act as a cold‑storage buffer in chilled‑water applications, supporting cooling system efficiency and stabilizing temperatures in the cooling loop.

Design & functions

The tank is made of unenameled black carbon steel for operation with boiler water or glycol solutions. Inside are two spiral coils placed in the lower and middle sections. This layout enables simultaneous connection of two sources (e.g., heat pump + solar collectors), two loads, or independent circuit management.

Depending on capacity (400–2000 l), the lower‑coil surface area ranges from 1.8 to 4.5 m² and the upper‑coil surface from 1.4 to 2.7 m². Their total volume is 22.4–50.4 l.

All connection nozzles (6/4") and temperature‑sensor sleeves (1/2") are on one side for easier installation and service. Each model also includes additional ports for a GE electric heater (approx. 3–12 kW depending on tank size).

Insulation & aesthetics

High‑quality insulation minimizes heat losses and offers a clean finish:

• models 400–500: fixed polyurethane‑foam insulation + skai cladding,
• models 800–2000: removable insulation + skai cladding.

Compatibility

The dual‑coil buffer tank integrates with a wide range of Galmet and third‑party systems:

• Air and ground‑source heat pumps by Galmet (e.g., Airmax³, Airmax², Maxima, Prima), sized appropriately to the heat‑pump output,
• pellet, gas, oil, electric, and solid‑fuel boilers,
• solar thermal systems with flat‑plate or evacuated‑tube collectors,
• DHW cylinders, buffers, weather controllers and Sinum systems,
• chilled‑water systems in building cooling (fixed PU insulation models only: 400–500).
